Is the end near?

The planet we call home is threatened by close to a thousand bits of space debris called Near Earth Objects which could very soon collide with Earth and cause massive devastation? Sure it sounds like a lame Hollywood science fiction movie plot but it's true. Within 30 years there is a chance that a very large asteroid called Apophis measuring approximately 1050 to 1350 feet across could slam into Earth causing mass extinction for thousands of square miles. Although the odds of this happening are estimated to only 1 in 45,000 the chances of any such incident occuring in the next 100 years drops to only 1 in 5,000. That's the same odds that a golfer has of getting a hole in one. So if any of you golfers out there have sunk a ball off the drive, look to the skies, there could be a much bigger hole in one coming.
